New Westminster City Hall Bike Enclosure

A new bike enclosure at New Westminster City Hall supports active transportation and sustainable commuting for City staff.

The new bike enclosure, with a capacity for 23 bicycles, replaces three parking stalls, and adjacent parklet invites people to gather and socialize. Ph5 identified the optimal location and collaborated with the selected metal fabricator to design the enclosure within an acceptable project budget.

The location was chosen for its proximity to the City Hall building, surrounding gardens, and connections to cycling networks. It also offers potential for enclosure expansion, clear sight lines, and high visibility to highlight the City’s commitment to cycling. The proposed location avoids interfering with onsite events around City Hall, such as the farmer’s market and movie nights and can be easily serviced with electrical and data connections.

Ph5 worked closely with the fabricator to design prefabricated and site-assembled components that reduced material, transportation, and assembly costs.
